About me

My approach towards cinematography is similar to the veteran cinematographer of Hollywood Conrad Hall where a journalist asked him in an interview “Where do you point your camera” to this Conrad Hall replied “I always point the camera towards story”

Having a work experience on working in different genre of films like Romance, Action, Comedy, Thriller, emotional drama, I always like to be very flexible towards my photographic approach, depending upon the visual grammer of each and every film-maker. Based on the story, I like to keep naturalistic, commercial , or glossy or even heightened reality which is a blend of glamour & realistic lighting.

I always like to keep myself reachable & communicative not only towards the director and HOD members but also towards key crew members of the Film as I believe that Film – Making is an collaborative art form.

Shahid Lal,

DOP

I hail from a Film background as My grandfather  S.S LAL is a renowned cinematographer, having worked in many Kannada, Tamil and Telugu films, who not only had a strong lighting & aesthetic sense but also had a very strong story-telling sense. Apart from being a DOP, he was also a specialist in SFX (Special effects in films) in Telugu films which was based on in-camera effects which was achieved on Film sets as opposed to modern time Visual effects (VFX)

My Father is also a prominent DOP in Hindi, Tamil , Telugu , Kannada films industry having worked in more than 100 films as cinematographer and also as a Special effects DOP (SFX DOP)

I always ensure that my lighting and camera movement enhances and blends with the story- telling where Cinema going Audiences get resonated with the VISUAL LOOK AND MOOD which resembles with the story of the film

I have been fortunate to have a mentor like my father KABIR LAL and Legendary and well known cinematographers    GOPAL SHAH, SUDEEP CHATTERJEE  , S RAVI VERMAN who taught me the importance of having a mastery over my craft as a DOP which is the most important aspect of film making, where a DOP has to execute the visual look in a live set during Filming which in turn helps in elevating the tone and mood of a scene.

Having worked in total 25 Feature films

  • 15 films as assistant Dop

  • 10 films as  Dop and 2nd Dop

  • 9 music video as  Dop

  • 5 Ad films as Dop

10 years of experience of working in films has given me the ability to transfer every film-maker’s visual to a greater level.
